Cardboard

Inspiration and Idea Development

I want to make a sculpture of the expression of old people. If only make the head part, i felt a little monotonous, so i add a hat. The whole sculpture is made of flat cardboard, and the 3D effect is created according to the facial structure.

Work-in-process

First, I draw the outline of the human face on the cardboard.

Cut the cardboard to the same height and stick the cardboard with hot melt glue along the drew facial contour.

Basically finished the contours of the face, eyes, nose, and mouth.

Then I started cutting the cardboard into the corresponding size to link the facial organs

Completed Work

This is a humorous face. After all the cardboard is put together, the three-dimensional feeling are strong.

Reflection

The ideas come from Google,I saw this old man face sculpture when I was looking for cardboard sculptures online. I want to make a sculpture of the expression of old people. If only make the head part, i felt a little monotonous, so i add a hat. The whole sculpture is made of flat cardboard, and the 3D effect is created according to the facial structure.

I drew the front and side of the sculpture. Then according to the size of the bottom plate, I measured the size of the sculpture’s eyes, cheeks, hats, etc. Then i cut the cardboard to the same height and stick the cardboard with hot melt glue along the drew facial contour.

I like my sculpture, because i measure the size carefully, and I expressed my idea. However, after drawing the size of each part of the face on the cardboard, it is still necessary to compare the size when pasting with a hot melt gun. I draw the face of the sculpture on a4 paper, but in actual operation, I will rescale the parts of the face according to the size of the bottom plate. In order to prevent the sculptural face imbalance,I need to keep resizing.
